Getting Rid of Your Pet's Ear Mites Naturally

To get rid of itchy ear mites in your dog or cat’s ears, first clean the ear as well as possible with a cotton swab or cotton ball. Then put a few drops of corn oil or other vegetable based oil in each ear. Thoroughly massage the oil, making sure to coat the entire interior of the ear. Wait a few minutes and then clean both ears out with a clean cotton ball. Repeat the process every day for 3 days. The oil works to smother the mites and their larva while at the same time providing relief and speedy healing for your pet.

Ear mites are contagious, so if you have other pets in the home they should be treated too, even if they aren’t showing symptoms yet. It’s a good idea to bathe dogs as well as treating their ears because the mites can get in their fur and they aren’t as concerned with cleaning themselves as cats are.

A word of caution:There are several conditions that can affect your pet’s ears other than mites. If you are not sure if your pet has ear mites, simply clean the ear with a cotton swab, then rub the swab on a white piece of paper or napkin. If there are mites present you will be able to see them crawling with the help of a magnifying glass if not with the naked eye.

If the corn oil treatment does not work or you do not see an improvement after a week, you should have your pet see a veterinarian. Prolonged mite infestation can cause more serious problems such as ear hematomas from itching and shaking the ears, ear infections and deafness in severe cases.
